Studies on Growth of the Cranium in the Korean Infants

Abstract
Authors studied the growing state of the Korean infant in terms of growth formula, measuring the craniums of infants of each age of the month using 92 cases of Korean normal infant cadavers from the new born to twelfth month of their age.
The overall results obtained were as follows:
1. Ratio of growth quantity was about from 0. 96 to 2.68 and the capacity of the cranium and the
length from nasion to metopion were the largest, more than 2 times, on the other hand the nasal
index and the frontolateral angle were 0.96 and 0.98 respectively.
2. The length-breadth cephalic index was mesocephalic type in the first five months, brachycephalic
type between sixth to eighth month, and hyperbrachycephalic type in the last three months.
3. The length-height cephalic index was hypsicephalic type, from 80.71 to 84.17, throughout the whole infantile age.
4. The nasal index was hyperchamerhinic type, from 61.93 to 62.09, throughout the entire infantile age.
5. The upper facial index was hypereuryonic type throughout the infantile age and very small comparing with the adult,
6. Growth rates of capacity, maximum length, maximum breadth, minimum breadth, height of the cranium, bizygomatic breadth, breadth of the midface, breadth of the inner orbital face, height of the upper face, height and breadth of the nose, length of the skull base, length from nasion to metopion and circumference of the cranium were diminished in proportion to increase of the age of th e month but the frontolateral angle alone was increased with the age of the month.
